Bourdelle Museum, a studio-museum
Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, the Musée Bourdelle is a timeless place of creativity and aesthetics. The museum occupies the building where the artist lived and worked after finishing his studies at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From the intimacy of the apartments to the Great Hall housing the artist’s monumental plaster casts and the carefully preserved studio, the sculpture gardens and the 1992 extension designed by Christian de Portzamparc, the museum presents an ambiance that is totally conducive to the contemplation of the works.
Understanding the artist through his work
A prolific sculptor, Bourdelle spent his life creating art that was full of life, strength and movement. He received commissions to create monuments, as well as facades and interiors for buildings such as the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. He travelled around the world from Buenos Aires to Berlin, from Warsaw to Prague. A man of his time, he added an interest in photography to his passion for drawing. He was also an art collector with diverse interests. Passing from room to room, you will discover each facet of this fascinating artist, including his passion for teaching. At the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, his students included Gutfreund and Giacometti.
